Axed sentiments!

Pakistan was on its way to win the "Twenty Twenty" cricket match against Australia .I was watching it with my mother who was continuously reciting holy names and verses for Pakistan’s victory.During the match there was a commercial break when suddenly Katrina Kaif appeared in an Ad for a bleach cream. In order to clarify she showed all the proofs about how effective the cream was for her!

I had seen the Ad for "Veet" before but while watching it with my mother, it felt different! This Ad is not the only one which can be considered offensive for Pakistani audience especially of mixed age groups. T.V commercials of Axe (Deodorant), birth control products and Seductive Movie trailers are all played on cable channels and people don’t raise any voice about it. Either because they keep on switching channels so they switch the channel just in time while watching with a minor or an elder or they are getting used to watch skin exposure with family.

I think its very important to realize that getting exposure to adult content at such an early age can make a child lose his/her sense for social values. The obvious signs can be witnessed through treatment of young women at public places.

Many people would say its all backward thinking and in this modern age when the kids can carry video clips on mobile phones or watch adult entertainment on computer, It would be naive to assume that children should be kept from watching such Ads which don’t even carry any “real” exposure but I would say that one of the reasons for our deterioration is losing our Value system and swallowing whatever comes in the name of modernization.

PEMRA(Pakistan Electronic media regulatory authority)can at least restrict skin exposure on family and sports channels.

Remember! Tallest trees have deepest roots also!so if we want to be something recognisable on the world map than "V" will have to hold our heritage and Values firmly the way Jews,Chinese, Japanese, or Indians have done.

  1. I cannot say anything against or supporting this statement. This is bcoz I myself,a teenager, m victimized towards interestingly viewing Vulgarity, which is one of the signs of Shetaan & Dajjaal. The least I can comment about ur Blog is supporting what u said in ur last lines.i.e. at least restrict skin exposure on family & sports channels.

  4. I have concluded that in Pakistan it is not possible to live according to Islamic injunctions. Though Pakistan was created for Muslims of India and in Objectives Resolution it is guaranteed that state will ensure Muslims to live their lives in individual and collective spheres according to the teachings of Islam. But it is impossible now. ALL THE RELIGOUS FORCES COULD NOT CREATE SINGLE NEWS CHANNEL IN PAKISTAN. So we are compelled to see vulgarity in channels.
    WHAT TO DO NOW?
Experiment of Pakistan is failed. Perhaps it was doomed to fail! CAN WE REQUEST UN TO ALLOT SOME LAND IN ANTARCTICA TO CREATE A REAL ISLAMIC SOCIETY AND STATE WHERE ONE COULD LIVE ACCORDING TO THE TEACHINGS OF ISLAM?

  5. I truly agree that obscene content should not be exposed to minors. However, it is the duty of adults to make such arrangements that keeps such content out of reach of minors.

Asking/Demanding channels or programmes to prohibit such content make less sense in the present era. I think this is the timne that we should start accepting and honouring our responsibilities instead of demanding things which are not likely to happen.

    All the best

  6. Thanks everyone for providing with valuable comments.

Uzair! There is never going to be an ideal Islamic state that is why we as Muslims would be rewarded for our conduct when in a time when getting distracted is an easy option.

Faisal Bhai! Social responsibility is one thing which even the western societies acknowledge. For example you can not show Tobacco or liquor product Ads on children T.V channels similarly a conduct can be introduced for family channels as well which is possible to implement if similar censor policy is given to foreign channels.
I saw the AXE Ad on Ten sports which is broadcasted by ARY Network so controlling such content is very much in our reach if consumer councils or any social platforms gets active.
This blog is an effort to create awareness before we get used to it.

  7. Two important points:
    1- Idealism is never achievable.
2- Idealist goals must always be kept in mind.
