Do “V” need an official religion????

Before discussing this issue “V” should be clear if having Islam as our official religion makes any difference and if adopting a secular status would change anything.

Impact of having Islam as the official religion:

Islam is a complete code of life so a country where it is the official religion there should be a clear display of Islamic principles and practices in economic, political and social systems and institutions but that is not the case here!
Our Banking system is established on interest based financing (In my opinion the ones offering Islamic banking are also actually interest based). Our political system doesn’t allow honest people to be elected. Our social system does display Islamic way of worshiping but “V” as a society appear to be confused about our Islamic values, ideology and principles.

So what if “V” actually become secular?

I think practically it would make no difference because our primary issue of dishonesty and corruption is due to not following Islam even when it is official religion so it would make no difference if Pakistan becomes a secular state rather the little check and balance that “V” have like people not drinking publicly or restrictions on skin exposure on media would end and as a result temptations which arise through income earned by dishonesty would become easier to express. The clash and social unrest which “V” feel disturbed about due to rift between various sects and religious groups is not due to having an official religion but due to not having an official Islam! And this is likely to continue even if Pakistan officially becomes a secular state.

If “V” continue to operate as an Islamic state there should be greater emphasis on basic Islamic aspects like:

Work and shopping should be held during Prayer time(irrespective of the way a person performs prayer/Salath).

Arabic language should be taught from class one just like English, Urdu and Mathematics so that our children feel comfortable to study Islam just the way they feel comfortable while reading books and novels.

Financial sector should be pushed to offer Operating lease.

And If “V” become secular than?

There would be greater need to implement social justice and equality otherwise our collapse would come earlier even though Secularism doesn’t stop anyone from following his religious beleifs.

Note: Some people might say that practically “V” are into idle worshipping and corruption/dishonesty/crimes are all rising because “V” are turning away from God (Rehman and Rahim) but I still feel that being a poor Muslim is better than being a good non-Muslim and if the society becomes officially secular than people might drift away from the little faith that they have due to what they see officially happening and practice out of routine!

  2. imo we just need some time to evolve .all the above problems we have will exist for decades but at some point we will see change ,be it us or some one else ,yes Islam just remains as a tag right now but honestly there is more to Islam that we haven't even discovered .we read Quran and perform namaz and observe fast some of the very few things that we think r enough in our worshiping quota ,but we forget that islam and Quran is more than that ,there is a saying that if u loose the rope of camel in desert u can open Quran and find it exact location and that is if u r well read in it .i think if we just read this miracle and try to understand the multi layered meanings in it there ll be no politician ,no mulla ,no general who can stand in our way.

  4. talking about ISLAM i could surely say dis dat a country where islam is enforced as a religion , there is no need of secularism.. cuz all dat u see in the system of secular nations is giving complete freedom to people from all religions.. nd dat is wat isalm says 2.. so in my view islam is better than secularism.. we can see the impact of secularism on western states.. the people are not bound by any religion and dat brings in a society a social choas !

  5. Secularism is definitely the need of today. In a Pakistan where thee religious divide is astonishingly growing at a rapid pace, there's no practicality in making a religious state. It's because of the fact that so many sects already exist within Islam, they won't agree on basic matters too due to their differences since it's obvious Islam encompasses everything. Hence, in a secular society, the chances are that rule of Law would be better implemented and logical reasons would be implied for a debate on policy. Much preffered.

  6. Before questioning such issues, we must first analyse that whether the policy/strategy in vogue has been implemented in true spirit? and then judge the results. Similalrly, hypothecating a different strategy when the first one has not been implemnted in true spirit makes less sense and closely resembles Pakistani politics where nothing is implemented fully nor evaluated, only inferrences are made for personal advancements.

We all perhaps support democracy which is the rule of majority. If more than 99% population of Pakistan is Muslim then it has all the right to tag Pakistan as Islamic Republic of Pakistan with its official religion as Islam. Why an artificial cover of secularism or something against the will of majority should even be thougt off. Is it logical / justified.....?

    All the best

  7. This whole topic is discussed very very briefly in the above blog. Actually, it is an extremely debatable topic where a lot of arguments can be put forward.
In short, in my opinion, I don't think one needs a proper religion to follow their lives. True, Islam is a complete code of life but at the same time, one also has a common sense of running different things. I think strong belief and faith in God, and constantly asking for help from Him and relying on Him is the perfect thing to do to have a good life.

  8. Secularism is Kufr. Rather worst than Kufr. Because in secularism we assent that God is our Creator, but reject Him as our Ruler. Moreover in Muslim society, it is actually soft face of atheism. If we want to secularize, it is better we apologize from India and request her to merge us with her. A secular Pakistan will actually be NaPak-istan!
